Q: Is installation really free with no hidden fees?
Yes, completely free for qualifying Bay Area ZIP codes. This is an introductory offer- expires July 31, 2026. Delivery, full assembly, stud anchoring, leveling, and cleanup — all included. No fees, no surprises.
Q: Can a Murphy Desk Bed be installed in an apartment or condo?
Absolutely. Many of our customers install Murphy Desk Beds in apartments, condominiums, ADUs, and smaller homes where maximizing space is essential.
Q: How long does the whole process take?
Approximately 6–7 weeks production at our Bay Area factory, plus scheduling for delivery and installation. Most Bay Area customers have their desk bed fully installed within 8 weeks of ordering.
Q: What if I live in a condo with HOA restrictions?
Our beds are found in San Francisco high-rises, Silicon Valley condos, and Marin townhomes. The installation team handles elevator logistics, floor protection, quiet hours, and HOA requirements.
Q: Can I customize the finish?
All models come in a range of stain finishes at no extra charge. Paint finishes (White, Alabaster, Espresso, Cobalt) are available for $250 more. Call us for a free design consultation and we'll send you finish samples.
Q: How much room do I need?
Our design specialists can recommend the ideal model based on your room dimensions and furniture layout.
Q: Does the desk have to be cleared before opening the bed?
No. The desk remains level as the bed opens, allowing most office items to stay in place. There is a gap between the desk and the cabinet for electrical cords to travel.
Q: Are your Murphy beds sturdy enough for full-time daily use?
Yes. Our maple hardwood cabinets, steel-reinforced tops, I-beam mattress platforms, and steel mechanism are all commercial-grade.
Q: What mattress do I need?
Our desk beds accept a standard queen mattress 10" deep, unlike competing beds that require a thin fold-up mattress. The mattress sits in a wood surround so you can close up your bed fully made and ready for guests (pillows must be removed).
Q: Is this a new design?
We first designed the desk beds back in 2000. We have over 50,000 of our beds in use everyday in college housing, ADU's, hospitality suites, and homes like yours.
